Pres spox says Russia has nothing to do with Ryanair incident

MOSCOW, May 28 (PRIME) -- A decision of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to start an investigation into a Ryanair jet incident is commendable but no authority of Russia has anything to do with the case, the spokesman for the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

"The thing is, don't get me wrong, the Russian Federation… the Russian aviation authorities, services, other authorities have nothing to do with what happened in Belarus with the jet of Ryanair. They have nothing to do but the situation happened, there are some disagreements and there is an intent of the ICAO to sort things out, which is commendable in this situation, I think," Peskov said.

Peskov separately said that the Kremlin does not expect problems with the E.U. due to technical issues of planes bypassing Belarus across the territory of Russia.

A Ryanair jet flying from Athens to Vilnius made an emergency landing in Minsk after a reported bomb threat. The Belarussian police arrested Roman Protasevich, author of Telegram channel Nexta qualified as extremist in Belarus. E.U. states prohibited Belarusian planes to fly across their air zones on Monday and called for new sanctions against Minsk.
